Sustainable design is an integral part of BGKA's overall philosophy of socially responsible design
practices
. Although a sustainable approach was not explicitly required for the design of Bay Hall,
Barnes Gromatzky Kosarek Architects incorporated sustainable features as a matter of course.
To measure the effectiveness of our efforts, we asked the Austin Energy Green Building Program
to evaluate the project. Bay Hall was awarded 2-Star Certification, indicating that 50% to 75% of
their Sustainable Design Checklist had been achieved. This accomplishment suggests that all
design projects can achieve some measurable level of sustainability, whether required or not.
