Austin Independent School District's Nan Clayton Elementary School
Achieves Green Building Program 2-Star Sustainability Rating

Built in a beautiful and environmentally sensitive area of southwest Austin, it was only natural that Nan
Clayton Elementary
should be designed with sustainable goals in mind. Barnes Gromatzky Kosarek
Architects limited the building's footprint to preserve 75% of the site as an "outdoor classroom."
Stained concrete floors added beauty while eliminating the need for thousands of square feet of vinyl
tile. Low-emitting, formaldehyde-free materials were used throughout, and an innovation point was
earned for abundant use of recycled building materials. On Sept. 13, 2007, the project was awarded a
2-Star Rating for sustainable design and construction by the Austin Energy Green Building Program.
