Almetris Duren Residence Hall Dedication Ceremony

The University of Texas at Austin celebrated the dedication of Almetris Duren Residence Hall on
October 12, 2007. The building was named in honor of Almetris "Mama" Duren, the first house mother
to African American women on The University of Texas campus. The sold-out event was attended by
friends, family, and admirers of Almetris Duren, and featured remarks by University President William
Powers, former U.T. Regent Dr. Zan Wesley Holmes, Jr., and a host of other inspiring speakers. As a
gateway building located on the northwestern-most corner of the campus, this 6-story, 588-bed
residence hall will serve as a lasting tribute to the life and contributions of Almetris Marsh Duren.
