While sustainable design requirements are becoming more common for large-scale civic projects,
there were no such requirements for the Palmer Events Center. In keeping with the firm's philosophy
of socially responsible design practices, Barnes Gromatzky Kosarek Architects worked with the
project team to establish measurable sustainability goals. Through the use of green materials,
shading, rainwater harvesting, photovoltaics, intelligent lighting systems, and various other strategies,
the project was determined to have achieved 50% to 75% of the Austin Energy Green Building
Program's sustainable design checklist.
